Overview of the Utilization of Personal Information

In accordance with the “Act on the Protection of Personal Information” and the “Act on the Use of Numbers to Identify a Specific Individual in Administrative Procedures” and any other related laws and regulations, Eisai appropriately handles personal information that it has acquired as follows:

Specifying the Purpose of Utilization of Personal Information
Eisai explicitly specifies in advance the purpose of utilization of personal information (“Utilization Purpose”) in its handling of personal information.

Proper Acquisition of Personal Information
Eisai acquires personal information in an appropriate manner. 
In addition, when acquiring personal information, Eisai notifies the individual directly, or makes a public announcement, of the Utilization Purpose.

Utilization of Personal Information
Eisai handles personal information within the scope of the specified Utilization Purpose.

Measures for Managing the Security of Personal Information
Eisai takes necessary and appropriate measures for managing the security of personal data including prevention of the leakage, loss or damage of the personal data that Eisai handles and it exercises the necessary and adequate supervision over its employees and subcontractors who handle personal data.

Response to Requests from Individuals Regarding Utilization of Their Own Personal Information
Eisai appropriately responds to requests from individuals regarding utilization of their own personal information as described in the following paragraphs.

Revision of the Privacy Policy of Eisai
The Privacy Policy of Eisai will continuously be reviewed and revised as necessary to ensure the proper handling of personal information.

Notification of the Utilization Purpose of Retained Personal Data

When an individual requests for the notification of the Utilization Purpose of his/her own personal data that Eisai retains (“Retained Personal Data”) , Eisai will respond to such requests without delay after confirming his/her identity through a certain process, except in the following cases:

  • When the Utilization Purpose has already been clearly disclosed or publicly announced;
  • When notification of the Utilization Purpose may harm the individual’s own or a third party’s life, body, property, or other rights and interests;
  • When notification of the Utilization Purpose may seriously hinder Eisai’s proper implementation of its business or activities;
  • When notification of the Utilization Purpose violates laws or regulations; or
  • When the identity of the individual cannot be confirmed.

Disclosure of Retained Personal Data and Third-party Provision Record

When an individual requests for the disclosure of his/her own Retained Personal Data and records of third-party provision (“Third-party Provision Record”), Eisai will respond to such requests without delay after confirming his/her identity through a certain process, except in the following cases:

  • When disclosure of the personal information may harm the individual’s own or a third party’s life, body, property, or other rights and interests;
  • When disclosure of the personal information may seriously hinder Eisai’s proper implementation of its business or activities;
  • When disclosure of the personal information violates laws or regulations; or
  • When the identity of the individual cannot be confirmed.

When an individual requests for the correction, addition and deletion of his/her own Retained Personal Data, Eisai will respond to such requests without delay after confirming his/her identity through a certain process.
